Answer Summary
The Eid prayer consists of two rak'ahs performed after the sun has risen. In the first rak'ah, seven takbirs are recited without the opening takbir, followed by reading Surah Al-A'la. The Eid prayer consists of two units (rak'ahs) and is performed after the sun has risen. Its time begins after the sun rises, when it has elevated to the height of a spear, and it ends when the sun sets. In the first rak'ah, seven takbirs are said without the opening takbir. Then after reading Al-Fatiha, Surah Al-A'la or another Surah is recited. In the second rak'ah, five takbirs are said, followed by reading Surah Al-Ghashiya or Surah Al-Qamar. After the prayer, the imam delivers a sermon where he reminds and advises the people. The evidence for this is narrated by Al-Bukhari and Muslim from Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri who said: "The Prophet used to go out on the day of Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha to the prayer area, starting with the prayer, then addressing the people while they were sitting in rows, giving them advice."
